We believe every house has the right to a unique story. To give a building character, we sometimes choose to go bold, just as we did with this Carriage Style house, which has a storybook feel.
With years of design experience, we’re skilled at using small tricks of the trade that give a house that extra enhancement.
One such tactic in this case was giving the mudroom and laundry area a separate entrance, away from the front entry way for the house. This way, the owners don’t have to worry about destroying the pristine main entrance when they trudge through into the kitchen.
Some other features on their wishlist were maximum lake views and lots of bright, natural light filling the great room, which has a vaulted ceiling. Carefully positioned roof dormers leverage natural light from above. A cantilevered hallway on the second floor opens it up to downstairs and adds to that spacious feel.
The cherry on top is the rustic four-season great room with a stone fireplace that opens up to gorgeous lake views.
The clients came to us looking for an ideal waterfront home. Immediately, we knew the dimensions of this super narrow lot would be our biggest challenge. How do you incorporate a garage on such a property so it doesn’t dominate the street-facing side of the house?
You do that by building the garage at ground level and placing the living space above it. That proposition satisfied the clients and solved their requirements for how their house should look and function on the outside.
In addition, we used a soft and natural exterior colour scheme so the narrow lot size wouldn’t look overwhelming to any visitors pulling into the driveway. The outside was further sweetened with stone, stucco, timber framing, and a decorative rooftop cupola.
Sketch was great to work with, not only do they provide great service but created an awesome design for our new project. Would definitely hire them again!
